DiEM25 practises democracy internally, before preaching it… The case of the French Presidential elections

05/04/2017 by

DiEM25 practises democracy at home before preaching it! Like other campaigns and elections (e.g. the referenda in the UK and Italy), DiEM25’s position is decided by means of a comprehensive internal debate and a vote involving all DiEM25ers – even those who live in Latin America or the United States (yes, we have an ideological disregard for borders…). It could not be different, of course, in the case of our collective position regarding the French Presidential Election. Currently, DiEM25 members are voting between the four options below on the basis of this briefing document. [Note that you must be a DiEM25 member for at least a few weeks before you can participate in the internal vote.]

Option A – DiEM25 calls upon French progressives to: (1) Vote in the 1st Round of the Presidential Election for any candidate other than Le Pen or Fillon, (2) Campaign for a single progressive internationalist list of parliamentary candidates in the legislative elections.

Option B – Vote for Benoît Hamon in the 1st Round of the Presidential Election

Option C – Vote for Emmanuel Macron in the 1st Round of the Presidential Election

Option D – Vote for Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the 1st Round of the Presidential Election

Which option do you think DiEM25 should adopt? [A] [B] [C] [D]
